Clewiston, FL — August 20, 2008 — Southern Gardens’ citrus groves received 6-8 inches of rain from Tropical Storm Fay. Hurricane force winds of 85 mph were recorded near LaBelle. Initial reports show strong winds caused some fruit damage at the Alcoma/Dunwody grove, however the groves at Southern and Devils Garden appear un-impacted at this time. We are in the process of assessing the extent of the wind damage in the groves. The Southern Gardens Citrus Processing plant suffered only minor wind damage to signage and light poles. Southern Gardens was recently named the world's most efficient citrus processing plant by FMC, a major equipment manufacturer. ###
