Clewiston, FL – U.S. Sugar is proud to renew its support for Take Stock in Children, a program with a proven track record of mentorship and scholarship opportunities for at-risk students from low-income families. Take Stock in Children was founded in 1995 and has helped over 30,000 Florida students attain a college education.
“Helping students find opportunities for academic success helps to build a stronger community and state,” said Jennifer Black, U.S. Sugar’s Community Relations Manager. “U.S. Sugar believes strongly in empowering our children so that they can learn the skills they need to one day join the workforce and provide for their families.”
This coming year, Take Stock in Children is working to provide over a dozen Hendry County students with post-secondary scholarships, including students seeking an education in certified trade programs. Scholarships are available to students from low income families who meet the requirements for graduation and also do not have any disciplinary issues. The program also provides a mentorship program, linking members of the communities with qualifying students enrolled in Hendry County Public Schools.
“Take Stock in Children is so proud to have U.S. Sugar as a partner in our work to provide students in Hendry County and across the state with the support to pursue their dreams through college and career success,” said Veronica Roquette, Take Stock in Children Student Services Coordinator at Clewiston High School. “Take Stock really does change the lives of our students, families and the entire community.”
Take Stock in Children is active in more than 800 schools in Florida. Students from grades 6 through 9 are selected to participate in a mentoring program comprised of civic leaders and representatives from the program’s corporate sponsors. Students involved in the program can receive support from a college readiness coach, who helps to prepare the child for the academic demands of college.
